Ligero is the priming taken from the topmost leaves of the tobacco plant, where exposure to sunlight produces the highest concentration of oils and nicotine. It contributes depth, strength and a slow burn to the blend. Premium Cuban cigars use ligero in carefully measured proportions; too much produces a harsh, slow-burning cigar.
