The open end of the cigar - the end you light.
The foot is the open end of the cigar, opposite the cap. The exposed filler at the foot reveals the colour and density of the bunch and is one of the most reliable places to assess construction. A loosely packed foot indicates a poorly bunched cigar that will burn fast and uneven.
