Colección Habanos

The Colección Habanos is an annual, highly limited series of Cuban cigars presented in book-shaped humidors, featuring unique vitolas rolled for a single brand. Introduced in 2001, these releases represent some of the most sought-after boxes in the modern Habanos portfolio. The cigars inside are typically blended to reflect the classic profile of the chosen house, albeit delivered in an uncommon and substantial format.

What it means

Since 2001, Habanos S.A. has commissioned craftsmen to produce large wooden boxes designed to look like bound volumes. Each "book" usually contains 20 cigars. The series highlights a different premium marque each year, cycling through the most prestigious names in the Habanos catalogue.

The vitolas chosen for these releases are rarely found in the brand's standard production line. For instance, a house known exclusively for robustos might be represented by a double figurado in its book release. Production numbers are strictly capped, usually ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand volumes globally.

Why it matters when buying

These volumes command high prices and are prime targets for counterfeiters. When evaluating a book on the secondary market, buyers must examine the box codes, regional stamps, and warranty seals closely. A genuine EMS stamp is a reliable indicator of provenance for volumes originally distributed in the UK market.

Because the wooden box acts as a functioning, although rudimentary, humidor, long-term storage requires careful consideration. Collectors often remove the cigars to store them in a primary climate-controlled cabinet, keeping the empty book alongside for display. You should always verify the micro-printing on the Habanos warranty seal and check the accompanying documentation against known release metrics.
