How the MokaCigar Library is written

The MokaCigar Library is a reference on Cuban cigars: the houses, vitolas, terms, history and practical care. Each article is drafted from the sources listed at its foot. Before publication it is reviewed by Ehab Abdallah, MokaCigar's founder and cellarmaster, and every page shows the date it was last updated.

Who reviews the articles

Ehab Abdallah has collected Cuban cigars since 2010 and founded MokaCigar in 2014. He reviews every Library article for accuracy and for what a collector actually needs to know before it is published, and again when it is materially changed.

Sources

Articles draw on published Habanos references, house histories and press material, established reference books, and what the house sees in the boxes that pass through its cellar. The sources consulted are listed at the end of each article. Where a fact cannot be confirmed, the article leaves it out or tells you how to check it yourself, for example from the box code.

Images are either our own, press material supplied by the houses, openly licensed photographs credited on the page, or illustrations and diagrams made for the Library. We never use generated images of real products or bands.

How articles are structured

Each article opens with a direct answer to the question its title asks, then goes into detail under descriptive headings. Measurements are given in millimetres and ring gauge, humidity in percent relative humidity, and prices in pounds sterling with the date they were checked.

Updates and corrections

Articles are reviewed at least once a year, and pages about releases, prices and law are checked more often. If you spot a mistake, write to info@mokacigar.com with the page address. Corrections are made promptly and the updated date changes.

What the Library will not do

  • Claim that any cigar is safe or good for your health. Smoking cigars harms health; for help to stop, see the NHS.
  • Give financial or investment advice. Articles about collecting describe what affects a cigar's value to collectors, not expected returns.
  • Encourage anyone under 18 to smoke. Cigars are sold to adults only.

Our commercial interest

MokaCigar sells Cuban cigars, and some articles link to the products they describe. Those links do not change what the articles say. The Library describes cigars we do not stock in the same way as those we do.
